One of San Cristobal Island's most popular visitor sites is Cerro Brujo, with its expansive white sand beach and a lagoon that locals once used as a salt mine but now offers excellent snorkeling opportunities. Another must-see is Kicker Rock, a fascinating rock formation that looks like a boot from one angle (hence its English name) and like a sleeping lion from another (thus its Spanish name, Roca León Dormido).

Known as Sugar City, Lautoka is a tropical destination on the western coast of Fiji. Be sure to take a stroll through the Lautoka Botanical Gardens, or venture just outside of the city to take in the natural beauty of Koroyanitu National Park, a rainforest preserve with spectacular hikes and bird-watching excursions.

A city in perpetual forward motion, Abu Dhabi greets visitors with gleaming skyscrapers and opulent Islamic architecture. There is much to see here, from the recently opened Louvre Abu Dhabi to the gigantic Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, with its white marble splendor. Beach life and turquoise waters can be found on Saadiyat Island, Al Bateen and Corniche Beach.

The capital of Saint Maarten, the Dutch side of this two nation island, Philipsburg is located on the isthmus between Groot Baai (Great Bay) and the Salt Pond. Founded in 1733 as a free port, the city is now the home to outstanding shopping, casinos, and a variety of hotels and resorts, including nearby Mullet Bay Resort and Golf Club.

Amarante, located in Portugal’s northern region of Tâmega e Sousa, sits quietly along the banks of the Tâmega River, framed by stone bridges, historic churches, and lush hills. The city is best known for its connection to São Gonçalo, a 13th-century monk whose name now graces the arched bridge and the grand convent-church that stands beside it.
