Las Palmas (officially Las Palmas de Gran Canaria) is the capital of Gran Canaria island as well as co-capital (along with Santa Cruz de Tenerife) of the Canary Islands. It is a major cruise-ship port known for duty-free shopping and sandy beaches, including Playa de Las Canteras, considered by many to be one of the best urban beaches worldwide.

Located in the western part of the Yukon Territory Province of Canada, this area is on the Yukon River and famous as the gold mining area of the great Gold Rush. It is still an active mining area and also a popular tourist attraction as it has retained much of the look from the gold rush era.

Byron Bay lies on the far north coast of New South Wales, Australia, where wide beaches meet the deep blue Pacific and the point of land known as Cape Byron marks the easternmost tip of the mainland. Standing tall above the coastline, the Cape Byron Lighthouse has guided ships since 1901 and now greets walkers and sightseers who take the scenic cliff-top path for views stretching toward whales during their migration season.

Jeonju-si, in South Korea’s North Jeolla Province, is widely associated with preservation rather than spectacle. The city’s identity is closely tied to its role as a former provincial capital during the Joseon Dynasty and as the birthplace of the royal Yi family.
