Guanajuato, a UNESCO World Heritage City nestled in the mountains of central Mexico, is a place where history is built into every hillside alley and underground tunnel. Today, visitors can still tour La Valenciana Mine, where centuries-old tunnels and original mining equipment offer a glimpse into the city's wealth-driven past. The nearby Templo de San Cayetano, built by mine owners in the mid-1700s, is a stunning example of baroque design, lined with gilded altars and intricate woodwork.

The Orkney Islands sit just off the northern coast of Scotland. This group of around seventy islands offers wide horizons, quiet roads, and coastlines shaped by wind and waves where visitors often arrive expecting rugged scenery and leave talking about the sense of space from the long beaches to the steep cliffs and sea stacks rising straight from the water. One striking example is the Old Man of Hoy, a tall sea stack that draws photographers and climbers alike.

Boise, Idaho, often surprises first-time visitors with its dynamic mix of western history, creative culture, and easy access to outdoor experiences. Nestled at the base of the Boise Foothills, the city has grown from a 19th-century outpost into a capital city with a distinctly independent spirit. Homer, Alaska, sits at the end of the Kenai Peninsula and is often called the “end of the road,” where dramatic landscapes meet a vibrant small-town spirit. Overlooking Kachemak Bay, the town is framed by snowcapped mountains, glaciers, and a striking spit of land that juts four miles into the sea.

Karpathos is marked by the peculiar Karpathian houses, built of carved stone, full of embroidery and characteristic interior decorations. From Pigadia you may visit Kyra Panagia, a picturesque bay with a marvelous beach and a monastery of the same name. A little further, on the northern promontory of Karpathos, lies the Diafani village; on the nearby little island of Saria we see Palatia, with ruins of the ancient city of Nisyros.
